THE HERETICS is a feature-length experimental documentary film about the Women’s Art Movement of the 70’s in the USA, specifically, at the center of the art world at that time, New York City. The Women’s Movement is one of the largest political movement in US history. Why then, are there still so few strong independent films about the many specific ways it worked? Why are there so few movies of what the world felt like to feminists when the Movement was going strong? In order to represent both that history and that charged emotional experience, we are making a film that will focus on one group in one segment of the larger movement. That group is The Heresies Collective which published HERESIES: A Feminist Publication on Art and Politics from 1977-1992.
